Man dies after falling from first floor of house while taking alcohol in Ruiru, Kiambu County


A 26-year-old man died after falling from the first floor of a house in Ruiru, Kiambu County.

Police and witnesses said John Gwanene was taking alcohol with his friends on the balcony of an unfinished house when he slipped off and fell on his head to the ground floor.

He was rushed to Ruiru Sub County Level 4 hospital by his friend where he died while receiving treatment.

Police later visited the scene and arrested two friends who were with the deceased at the time of the incident pending interrogation and investigations.

The body of the deceased was removed to the mortuary awaiting postmortem to establish the cause of death.

In Ndere, Siaya County, a miner was killed after a mine shaft collapsed.

The body of Richard Doye, 23 was found in the shaft where he had been trapped fatally.

Officials said there was heavy rainfall in the area on Saturday that might have caused the collapse.

A group of miners ventured into the shaft oblivious of the dangers there in when it caved in trapping them. They said they found Doye there covered by soil after the shaft had collapsed.

The body was removed to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

And police are investigating the death of a technician at Aldai Technical Training Institute.

The body of Amos Cheruiyot, 28 was found in his compound long after his death.

The cause of the death was not immediately established and the body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

It is the latest such incident at mining sites amid efforts to address the safety issue of the miners.

Elsewhere in Mariakani, Mombasa County, a man was fatally hit by a speeding train at the meter gauge railway.

Officials said the victim was crossing on foot as the train carrying empty wagons to Mombasa approached on Sunday.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an identification and autopsy.

And a suspect was arrested after being found with a pair of handcuffs, a radio call, a jungle t-shirt and jungle military mask in the Magombo area, Nyamira County. Police said they were interrogating him for more information on his motives.
