Kenya reaffirms regional health leadership in talks with ECSA-HC delegation


Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale today held bilateral talks with the East, Central and Southern Africa Health Community (ECSA-HC) delegation, led by Ntuli Kapologwe, at Afya House, reaffirming Kenya’s commitment to strengthening regional health collaboration.

The discussions focused on aligning Kenya’s health priorities with resolutions from the 76th Health Ministers Conference, emphasizing Universal Health Coverage, primary healthcare, and digital health transformation.

Speaking on sustainable financing, Hon. Duale said, “Pooled funding, blended finance, and public-private partnerships are key to reducing dependence on donors and ensuring long-term health system resilience.”

Both sides stressed the importance of enhancing regional health emergency preparedness through early warning systems, coordinated response mechanisms, and cross-border collaboration.

Hon. Duale also highlighted Kenya’s ambition to position itself as a regional hub for pharmaceutical manufacturing, supported by harmonized policies and resilient supply chains.

On workforce development, he added, Investing in training, retention, and regional skills recognition is essential for a stronger, interconnected health system.”

The meeting, attended by Mary Muthoni, Patrick Amoth, and ECSA-HC officials Dr. Evelyne Wesangula and Dr. Khalid Azam, also discussed tackling the dual burden of communicable and non-communicable diseases, antimicrobial resistance, and harmonized digital health data-sharing standards.

Hon. Duale concluded by reaffirming Kenya’s support for ECSA-HC, calling for strengthened partnerships, accountability, and regular progress reviews through ongoing regional initiatives, including the World Bank-funded Health Emergency Preparedness Project implemented with ECSA-HC and IGAD.
