Mbavu Destroyer allegedly sues Oga Obinna after losing Vurugu Boxing bout, demands millions and cars

A fresh storm is brewing in Kenya’s fast-rising street boxing scene after Mbavu “The Destroyer” reportedly moved to court following his dramatic loss at the now-viral Vurugu Fight Night.

The controversial fighter is said to have filed a case at the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT), seeking to overturn the result of his highly publicized clash against rival Majembe.

In the filing, Mbavu is demanding to be declared the rightful winner, or be granted a rematch under what he terms as “fair and transparent conditions.”

Disputed Result Sparks Legal War

The bout, staged at the Kasarani Indoor Arena, ended with Majembe securing a decisive technical knockout (TKO), cementing his dominance and walking away with the lion’s share of the lucrative prize package.

However, Mbavu and his team now claim the outcome was flawed, accusing judges of making the wrong call and allegedly favoring his opponent.

In the case documents, Mbavu is pushing for recognition as the official winner of the fight, a move that could see him claim millions of shillings in prize money, alongside high-value rewards including a car and other bonuses that were earmarked for the victor.

Millions And Luxury Prizes At Stake

The Vurugu Fight Night was no ordinary boxing event.

What began as a social media rivalry quickly snowballed into a national spectacle, attracting political leaders, corporate sponsors, and massive public interest.

The total prize pool exceeded KSh 6 million, with the winner taking home cash rewards, a brand-new car, and additional perks such as a motorbike and sponsorship deals.

Majembe ultimately scooped the rewards, including over Sh2.5 million in winnings and luxury prizes, after overpowering Mbavu in the ring.

Now, Mbavu wants that entire package reversed in his favor, or compensated through damages.

Match-Fixing Claims Deepen Dontroversy

The legal action comes amid explosive allegations from Mbavu’s camp that the fight may have been pre-determined.

His team has publicly claimed that the match was “fixed,” accusing event promoter Oga Obinna and officials of influencing the outcome behind the scenes.

The suit reportedly names Obinna as a respondent, alongside other stakeholders including boxing authorities, signaling a potentially high-stakes legal battle that could shake the credibility of the event.

Obinna And Organizers Under Pressure

Oga Obinna, the brains behind the Vurugu Boxing event, had positioned the fight as a platform to uplift grassroots talent and transform lives through sport.

The event succeeded in capturing nationwide attention, even drawing support from top political leaders and business figures.

But the unfolding dispute now threatens to overshadow that success, with critics questioning the integrity of the judging process and overall organization.

What Next?

With the matter now before the Sports Disputes Tribunal, all eyes are on whether the results of one of Kenya’s most talked-about fights could be overturned.

If Mbavu’s claims succeed, it could set a major precedent for locally organized combat sports,  and potentially force stricter regulation of similar high-profile events.

For now, the drama has moved from the boxing ring to the courtroom, and the final verdict may be just as explosive as the fight itself.
