And police in Teso North, Busia County, are investigating a mob killing at Kocholia Market after boda boda riders descended on a man they suspected of being a robber.
The incident occurred on Saturday, August 22, 2026, after members of the public reported a case of mob injustice at the market.
Police officers who visited the scene found an unidentified male adult with serious injuries to his face, head and back.
Preliminary investigations established that the man had allegedly posed as a passenger and was considered suspicious by boda boda riders at the market.
The riders reportedly searched him and found two kitchen knives, one with a blue handle and another with an orange handle. Suspecting that he intended to rob them, the riders allegedly attacked him, inflicting serious injuries.
Police officers intervened and rescued the injured man before rushing him to Teso North Sub-County Hospital. However, he was pronounced dead on arrival.
His body was preserved at the hospital mortuary pending identification and a postmortem examination.
The two knives were recovered and kept as exhibits as police investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and seek to identify those involved in the fatal assault.
The case is being investigated as a murder incident.
