Wajir MCA Yussuf Ahmed Tolfiyow, who was held captive by his abductors for six months, has shared chilling details of his ordeal.
In an interview with The Nation, a relative of the MCA revealed that Yussuf was imprisoned in the same structure as the three men from Kitengela Jamil Longton, Aslam Longton, and Bob Njagi who had also gone missing and were later released.
According to the family member, Yussuf was confined in a separate room next to Bob Njagi, who was in a torture chamber.
The relative recalled that Yussuf could hear Bob screaming from his cell.
“He told us he was held next to Bob Njagi. He was in a different room, but he could hear Njagi’s screams,” the relative said.
Yussuf also recounted to his family that for the first two months, he was held in Nairobi alongside several other captives before being moved to an undisclosed location.
The family member further described how Yussuf’s captors released him dropping him off at Pangani shopping center around 9:30 p.m. with sh 5,000.
However, they warned him not to look back or they would kill him. Out of fear, Yussuf obeyed, eventually making his way home to Eastleigh, where he reunited with his family around 11:00 p.m.
News of the MCA’s safe return was met with widespread relief.
Northeastern leaders, including Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi, expressed their joy at his return.
On Facebook, the Governor shared that the people of Wajir had endured months of uncertainty and prayers for his safe return.
“The news of his reunion brings immense relief and joy to our community.
It is a moment of gratitude and renewed hope for his family and all those who stood by them during these difficult times,” Abdullahi said.
Eldas MP Adan Keynan also expressed his relief that the MCA was found alive, condemning the abduction and calling for investigations into the matter.
Yussuf Ahmed Tolfiyow was abducted on September 13, 2024, by armed men in two unmarked Toyota Land Cruiser Prados.
The kidnappers blocked the taxi he was in along Enterprise Road as he was heading from South C to Pangani.
The revelation that Yussuf was held in the same location as Bob Njagi, though in different rooms, supports Njagi’s earlier statements.
During a February 2025 appearance on the JKL Show, Njagi, a former abduction victim, confirmed that he was detained in the same building as the Wajir MCA.
“I had the opportunity to peep through the keyhole, and I saw him,” Njagi recalled, further detailing the grim conditions of their captivity.
