Investigation Into The Abduction Of Mombasa Blogger Bruce John Khajira Takes New Turn


The investigation into the abduction of Mombasa -based blogger Bruce John Khajira, also known Chawa-001 has progressed significantly with the recent arrest of a key suspect by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) .

 

On Thursday, November 8, the DCI announced that a man identified as a primary suspect in the abduction and assault that occurred on September 12 was apprehended at the Lunga Lunga boder while attempting to flee to Tanzania.

 

The suspect referred to by the alias “Nyanya” had been evading captured for several months.

According to the DCI, ” His arrest today is the result of relentless effort by dedicatives working in collaboration with the immigration Departiment who were aware of the plans by those involved to escape the country”

A special team of DCI detectives conducted a thorough investigation which included forensic evidence placing Nyanya at both the primary and secondary locations of the incident.

Additionally, he was found to have been in constant communication with other known accomplices before, during and after the abduction.

Detectives from the Digital Forensics Lab identified the vehicle used to transport the victim from his home to the crime scene as a grey Nissan Note.

This vehicle was rented by Nyanya on August 20, 2024, and returned on the evening of September 12, after the crime was committed.

The car has since been seized and is currently in custody.

The DCI further revealed that forensic analysis confirmed the vehicle was present at the primary crime scene a County Government of Mombasa construction site in the Bonje Area where the victim was sexually assaulted for approximately two hours before being moved to the Mwakirunge area, where he was abandoned.

With the suspect now in custody and undergoing interrogation, the DCI believes it is only a matter of time before additional individuals involved in the crime are apprehended.

“Several accomplices have been identified and are hiding in various locations across the country. The DCI urges them to surrender at any police station or DCI office,” the statement added.

This arrest follows the earlier apprehension of four individuals who have been charged with the abduction, gang rape, and assault of the blogger.

These four were arraigned at the Shanzu Law Courts in Mombasa County on September 24, where they pleaded not guilty before Senior Resident Magistrate Robert Mbogo.

Additionally, Mombasa County Lands Executive Hussein Mohamed, who was also arrested in connection with the assault, has been granted a sh1 million anticipatory bond with strict conditions as he awaits a decision on potential charges.
