A man believed to be a major trafficker in cannabis has been arrested following a successful anti-narcotics operation in Nairobi’s Central Business District, police have confirmed.
The suspect, identified as George Odhiambo Owuor, was apprehended along Kirinyaga Road during a targeted operation aimed at cracking down on the distribution of illegal drugs in the city.
According to law enforcement officials, the arrest led to the recovery of a substantial quantity of narcotic drugs and related paraphernalia.
Items seized during the raid included: 50 kilograms of cannabis sativa (bhang), 1,350 rolls of bhang, 400 packets of Razzle rolling papers, 6,000 filter tips, Two weighing machines
Police say the volume and packaging of the recovered drugs suggest that Owuor was not a small-time peddler but a significant player in the city’s drug trafficking network.
“This is one of the biggest hauls we’ve made in the recent past. The suspect was in possession of large quantities of cannabis, packaged and ready for distribution,” said a senior officer involved in the operation.
“We believe he is part of a wider syndicate operating within the CBD and possibly beyond.”
The suspect is currently in police custody and is undergoing interrogation before being arraigned in court on charges of trafficking narcotic substances.
Authorities have praised the operation as a major step forward in combating drug-related crime in the city and have urged members of the public to continue sharing intelligence on suspected dealers.
“This arrest sends a strong message that we will not relent in our fight against the illegal drug trade,” the officer added.
Investigations are ongoing to determine whether the suspect has connections to a larger drug network.
Police say more arrests could follow in the coming days.
