CS Murkomen warns against political violence in churches, calls for peaceful politics

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has condemned rising incidents of political chaos in places of worship, warning that the government will take firm legal action against anyone who instigates violence in churches or political gatherings.

Speaking while addressing the public, Murkomen said the government is committed to promoting peaceful, respectful and development-focused politics.

He stressed that incidents involving stone-throwing, physical fights and confrontations in churches are unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

Referring to recent chaos witnessed in Othaya, Nyeri County, the CS said such incidents must come to an end.

He revealed that he has directed the Regional Commissioner and the Regional Security Team to take decisive legal measures to ensure similar incidents are completely stopped.

Murkomen reiterated that President William Ruto’s administration believes in peaceful politics, even in the presence of political opposition.

He said all leaders should be allowed to freely sell their policies to the public, noting that it is ultimately citizens who decide which ideas best serve their lives and livelihoods.

He urged politicians to avoid mobilising goons, engaging in stone-throwing or turning churches into arenas of political violence.

Speaking in his capacity as Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary, Murkomen warned that anyone who brings violence into churches or political meetings—regardless of political affiliation—will face legal consequences.

“All forms of violent politics, including stone-throwing and physical confrontations, must come to an end. Kenya must embrace politics of peace, love and tolerance,” he said.

Murkomen also called on leaders to focus on issue-based politics, saying insults, hate speech and falsehoods do not offer solutions to Kenyans’ problems.

He noted that President Ruto sought office through policies and will continue to be judged on performance and delivery, not rhetoric.

He concluded by affirming his support for the church and the Kenyan people, urging a shift towards mature, peaceful politics rooted in respect, unity and development.
