Gengetone star Shalkido, known for the popular catchphrase “Shalkido mi huspin na mayeng,” is fighting for his life after being involved in a serious accident.
The news was first shared by media personality Oga Obinna, who revealed that the former Sailors Gang member had been rushed to hospital for emergency treatment.
“Shalkido is critical in the hospital. Apparently, he had an accident today early morning. Will update on what happened, where, how, and why.
Na tuliwachana vizuri today morning. Keep him in your prayers kindly,” Obinna wrote.
Obinna did not provide details about the cause or location of the accident, nor the full extent of Shalkido’s injuries.
This tragic news comes just weeks after the Ni Tekenye hitmaker publicly opened up about his financial struggles, appealing for help to support his young family.
In a heartfelt post, Shalkido revealed that he had reached his breaking point as a father.
He explained that he had tried multiple hustles without success and shared photos of his modest living conditions, saying he would be grateful for a motorbike to start a boda boda business.
His plea touched many Kenyans, including comedian Eric Omondi, who used funds from his Sisi Kwa Sisi initiative to buy Shalkido a new motorbike.
Eric later posted a video of himself unwrapping the motorbike and handing it over to the struggling artist.
In an exclusive interview, Shalkido admitted that poor financial planning during the peak of his fame was a major factor in his downfall.
While radio host Mwalimu Rachel secured Sailors Gang lucrative gigs at the time, Shalkido said the group assumed the money would last forever and failed to prepare for the future.
After the group split, Shalkido struggled to make ends meet, taking on odd jobs from boda boda riding to construction work.
He recounted one of his lowest moments when he told his wife to return to her mother’s home and left with only Sh 80 in his pocket.
He boarded a matatu and decided to start over in an unfamiliar town, eventually working briefly as a night watchman before being fired.
The musician also revealed that, long before this, he had attempted to take his own life several times once by drinking poison and another by jumping onto a busy road from a footbridge.
Obinna has since stepped in to help Shalkido rebuild his life. He secured him a fully furnished home and supported him in landing an ambassadorial deal.
On his show, Obinna even personally gifted the artist a sofa set, a comfortable mattress, and a plush carpet to ease his struggles.
Shalkido’s accident now marks another painful chapter in his journey.
Friends, fans, and fellow artists continue to pray for his recovery as updates on his condition remain awaited.
