Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has been appointed as the acting Interior Cabinet Secretary, a position he will hold until President William Ruto names a new cabinet secretary.
This change comes after Interior CS Kithure Kindiki was appointed as Deputy President, succeeding the ousted Rigathi Gachagua.
In a related announcement, Mudavadi has declared Friday, November 1, a public holiday to celebrate the swearing-in of Deputy President-elect Kithure Kindiki.
The declaration was made in a gazette notice dated October 31, stating that the holiday is officially recognized under the Public Holidays Act.
The notice reads: “It is notified for the general information of the public that the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, in the exercise of the powers conferred by section 3 of the Public Holidays Act, declares Friday, the 1st of November 2024, to be a public holiday.”
The swearing-in ceremony for Kindiki is set to take place at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (K.I.C.C.) in Nairobi, starting at 10:00 AM.
Chief of Staff Felix Kosei has also formed a 24-member committee, led by Cabinet Secretary Mercy Wanjau, to facilitate the event.
On October 18, Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula informed the House about President Ruto’s nomination of Kithure Kindiki for the Deputy President role.
This nomination complies with Article 149 of the Constitution, which requires the President to nominate a candidate for a vacant Deputy President position within 14 days.
A three-judge bench lifted prior conservatory orders preventing Kindiki from taking office, paving the way for the swearing-in ceremony.
