President William Ruto has addressed health and lifestyle concerns in a candid message to Fred Matiang’i and the public, urging moderation in eating and the importance of exercise, while emphasizing national development over idle debates.
Speaking at a public event, the President used a metaphor about eating bananas to stress balance in personal habits.
“My friends, eating bananas is not a crime—I eat bananas too. But reduce the portions a little and do exercise, so you don’t spend your time idly sleeping during meetings,” Ruto said.
He clarified that his remarks were advisory, not a criticism of anyone personally.
“I never said you are eating at my table. I am only advising that even if you were, moderation and exercise are key. Avoid idleness in meetings that harm your health,” he added.
The President also took a swipe at critics, describing them as lacking focus and meaningful agendas.
“Some people have no agenda. I spend 1% of my time addressing them. Ninety-nine percent of my time is spent building roads, creating affordable housing, organizing markets, linking the steamer, and planning Kenya’s future,” he said.
He urged citizens to prioritize productive activities over distractions, including personal health management.
“Reduce unnecessary weight gain, exercise, and focus on the nation’s development. Let us plan together for progress. I am here working with county leaders to drive Kenya forward,” he said.
Ruto concluded by reaffirming his commitment to continuing Kenya’s development agenda and encouraging citizens to join in focusing on constructive initiatives rather than idle criticism.
“Let us continue together, plan development projects, and support each other in building a stronger Kenya,” he said.
