Prof. Kithure Kindiki has been officially sworn in as the third Deputy President of Kenya under the 2010 Constitution.
The ceremony took place at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre and was presided over by Chief Justice Martha Koome.
In line with the Assumption of Office Act, Prof. Kindiki took two crucial oaths: the oath of allegiance and the oath of due execution of office.
This significant event occurred shortly before 11 a.m., and after taking the oaths, he proceeded to sign them at a ceremonial table, pledging to execute his duties faithfully and uphold the law.
Once the oaths were signed, they were transmitted to the Chief Justice, who countersigned them alongside the new Deputy President.
Court officials then affixed the Chief Justice’s seal to each document before they were submitted to the Attorney General for safekeeping.
Following the oath-taking ceremony, President William Ruto was invited to the stage by the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary for the ceremonial handover of the Constitution of Kenya to Deputy President Kindiki.
This symbolic gesture highlights the responsibilities that come with the office.
The event concluded with a photo session featuring the President and his new Deputy.
There was also a group photo that included Chief Justice Koome, the First Lady, and the spouse of the Deputy President, capturing a moment of unity and celebration.
Prof. Kindiki assumes this significant role after the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua, who was removed from office by Parliament due to serious violations of the Constitution.
His appointment marks a new chapter in Kenya’s political landscape as he steps into this pivotal leadership position.
