Rapper Jay Z wins Sh16 million legal battle as court dismisses paternity claims by alleged son

Billionaire American rapper Jay Z is in a celebratory mood after winning a major legal battle involving his alleged son.

The win came after a California court dismissed the long-running paternity claims linked to Rymir Satterthwaite and awarded the rapper Sh16 million in legal fees.

The former Roc-A-Fella Records owner prevailed in a case filed by Lillie Coley, the godmother of Satterthwaite, who has for years claimed that the billionaire rapper is Satterthwaite’s biological father.

According to AllHipHop, a federal judge ordered Coley to pay Jay-Z’s attorney fees, totaling $119,235.45, an equivalent of Sh16 million.

The judge stated that Coley “shall take nothing” from the rapper, citing California’s anti-SLAPP statute, which is designed to prevent abusive lawsuits intended to harass or intimidate defendants.

The ruling came hot on the heels of Coley’s request for an emergency restraining order after Jay-Z’s attorneys said they planned to seek court sanctions over what they described as decades-long harassment.

The court dismissed Coley’s lawsuit with prejudice in 2025, a move that cleared the way for Jay-Z’s legal team to pursue financial penalties.

Satterthwaite, now 31, claims Jay-Z had a sexual relationship with his late mother in the 1990s.

He says she was 16 at the time, while the rapper was 22.

The complainant explained that he has filed multiple paternity suits over the years but acknowledges that courts dismissed all of them.

Court records show that in 2022, a New Jersey judge barred Coley and Satterthwaite from filing further lawsuits in that state without prior court approval.

The judge concluded that repeated efforts to litigate the paternity claims had consistently failed.

Throughout the legal battles, Jay-Z denied the paternity allegations and successfully blocked all attempts to compel him to provide DNA evidence.

The latest ruling brings renewed attention to a case that has followed the rapper for decades and has now resulted in a significant financial judgment in his favor.
