The Ministry of Interior and National Administration has provided an update on the ongoing nationwide recruitment of Chiefs and Assistant Chiefs, following a request for clarification made by the Member of Parliament for Nyaribari Masaba, Honourable Daniel Manduku.
In a statement delivered in Parliament, the Ministry affirmed that the recruitment of Chiefs and Assistant Chiefs is a continuous process, necessitated by regular attrition due to retirements, deaths, resignations, promotions, or dismissals.
Contrary to concerns raised, the Ministry reported that there are no systemic challenges in filling the vacancies across the country.
To maintain seamless service delivery at the grassroots level during these recruitment transitions, the Ministry explained that acting appointments are made.
Vacant Locations are temporarily administered by serving Assistant Chiefs, while Sub-locations without assigned officers are supported by neighboring Assistant Chiefs.
This ensures that administrative functions remain uninterrupted and no gap is left in local governance.
Turning specifically to Nyaribari Masaba Constituency, the Ministry confirmed that appointments have been authorized for Ikorongo and Irianyi Locations, along with Kegogi, Gekonge, Ikenye, Ibacho, Mesabisabi, Nyanturago, and Nyankononi Sub-locations.
The individuals selected for these posts have been informed of the outcome of the recruitment process.
The next step involves verification of academic and professional qualifications, which is currently underway.
The appointees are working with the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) and other relevant bodies to authenticate their documents before being formally deployed.
This development is expected to restore full administrative capacity in Nyaribari Masaba, improving government presence and the delivery of essential services to residents at the grassroots.
