Wakadinali – Biography

Wakadinali is a pioneering Kenyan hip-hop group known for their raw lyricism, aggressive delivery, and street-rooted authenticity.

Rising from the gritty neighborhoods of Nairobi’s Eastlands, the group has established itself as one of the most influential voices in Kenya’s underground and mainstream hip-hop scenes.

Their sound blends elements of shrap (Sheng + rap), drill, and hardcore hip-hop, carving a distinct identity in East African music.

 Members

Wakadinali is composed of three main artists:

  • Scar Mkadinali (also known as Scarface or simply Scar)
  • Domani Munga
  • Sewersydaa (a close collaborator and member of the broader crew)

They are central figures in the Rong Rende collective, a larger artistic and street movement that includes producers, affiliates, and fellow rappers, all of whom contribute to their growing influence.

 Early History

The group was formed in Umoja, Eastlands—an area known for its vibrant yet tough urban life. The name Wakadinali roughly translates to “the radicals” or “rebels” in Swahili, reflecting their bold, unfiltered take on social issues.

They began their journey in the early 2010s, participating in freestyle battles and local cyphers. Their lyrics spoke directly to the youth, addressing poverty, crime, drug culture, police brutality, and the struggle for survival in Nairobi’s streets.
