Two killed as fire razes homes in Makunga, Trans Nzoia County

Two people lost their lives and property of unknown value was destroyed following a fire that broke out on Tuesday night in Makunga area, on the outskirts of Kitale town in Trans Nzoia County.

The inferno, which occurred at around 9.00 p.m., claimed the lives of a middle-aged woman and the owner of the plot where the fire erupted.

Residents said the flames spread rapidly, leaving little time for occupants to escape or for neighbors to contain the blaze.

Eyewitnesses reported that frantic efforts by locals to put out the fire were unsuccessful due to the intensity of the flames.

By the time the fire was brought under control, several structures had been reduced to ashes.

The cause of the fire has not yet been established. However, police have launched investigations to determine what may have sparked the deadly incident.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to the morgue as authorities continue with inquiries. Local leaders have urged residents to exercise caution, especially at night, as investigations continue.
