Suspect arrested in Homa Bay over defilement of minor

Police have arrested a suspect linked to the defilement of a five-year-old girl in Got Kokech, Homa Bay County, following an intensive manhunt.

In a statement, the National Police Service (NPS) identified the suspect as Danis Otieno Riani, who had allegedly gone into hiding and frequently changed locations in an attempt to evade arrest.

“Following the report of the incident, officers launched investigations and tracked the suspect through sustained intelligence gathering,” the NPS said.

Authorities confirmed that the suspect was eventually located at his hideout and apprehended.

“The suspect made several attempts to evade arrest, but our officers successfully traced and arrested him,” the statement added.

Riani was arraigned in court on April 20, 2026, marking what police described as a key step toward justice for the victim and her family.

The NPS reiterated its commitment to tackling sexual and gender-based violence, particularly crimes involving minors.
