Human remains linked to missing man found in thicket in Isiolo


Police in Isiolo County are investigating a suspected murder after officers recovered human remains linked to a missing person case.

According to police, the remains are believed to be connected to the disappearance of George Gitonga Ntuara, who had earlier been reported missing at Isiolo Police Station.

Police officers revisited the scene on Wednesday morning and recovered several items, including a piece of skull, bone fragments, two teeth, a toenail, a blood-stained polythene bag, a sports shoe and a motorcycle front mudguard.

The remains were taken to Isiolo County Teaching and Referral Hospital for preservation pending forensic examination at the Government Chemist.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations is handling the probe as detectives work to establish the circumstances surrounding the disappearance and suspected killing.

And police in Embu County launched investigations into the suspected murder of a 26-year-old man whose body was found near a school gate in Embu East Sub-county.

The victim was identified as Lenis Chomba Mwaniki. According to police, he left home on May 19 at about 7am and went to Kanja Shopping Centre but never returned.

His family was alerted on Wednesday morning after a neighbour informed them that Mwaniki had been found lying lifeless near the gate of Kanja Primary School.

Police said the deceased had visible head injuries, suggesting he may have been assaulted before his death.

The scene was processed by investigators before the body was moved to Ena District Hospitalmortuary awaiting postmortem examination.

No arrests had been made by Wednesday as investigations continued.

Meanwhile, police in Vihiga County arrested a suspect following the death of an 81-year-old man after an alleged assault over stolen tree seedlings.

The incident was reported at Liyaduywa Police Post in Sabatia Sub-county.

According to police, the suspect told officers that he confronted an elderly man he allegedly found stealing tree seedlings from his farm.

A struggle reportedly ensued during which the old man was knocked to the ground and lost consciousness.

The victim was identified as Solomon Okuro Shilunya, 81, a night guard in Mbale town. Police said he succumbed to injuries sustained during the incident.

Investigators established that the deceased had a broken left leg, a broken left arm and a deep cut on the head.

The scene was processed and documented before the body was moved to Vihiga County Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem examination.

Police said the suspect was arrested and remains in custody pending arraignment in court on Thursday, May 21.
