President William Ruto on Tuesday met leaders from Meru County at State House, Nairobi, in a consultative engagement aimed at strengthening political mobilisation and accelerating development projects in the county.
The meeting was attended by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and a Meru County delegation led by Governor Isaac Mutuma M’Ethingia.
Also present were Deputy Governor Linda Kiome, Senator Kathuri Murungi, 11 Members of Parliament and 67 of the county’s 69 Members of the County Assembly (MCAs).
During the discussions, President Ruto said the government was focused on strengthening the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party at the grassroots through participatory and democratic elections beginning at the polling centre level.

He noted that inclusive party structures were key to sustaining democracy and effective governance.
The leaders also deliberated on Meru County’s transformation agenda and ways of fast-tracking priority programmes and projects aimed at stimulating economic growth and improving livelihoods.
President Ruto reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering development under the Kenya Kwanza Administration’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
Among the flagship projects already underway is the upgrading of Meru County Hospital into a national referral facility at a cost of Sh1 billion.
The project is expected to significantly enhance healthcare services in the region and reduce referrals to distant facilities.

The government is also implementing last-mile electricity connectivity projects across all constituencies in Meru County, targeting the connection of 30,000 households to the national grid.
In addition, construction of 17 modern markets and several affordable housing projects is ongoing, initiatives expected to create thousands of jobs and boost local incomes.
President Ruto further announced that construction of the Nithi Bridge will commence soon at a cost of Sh7 billion to improve safety along the busy Nairobi–Embu–Chuka–Chogoria–Meru road.
A 17-kilometre Meru Town Bypass, valued at Sh3 billion, will also be constructed to ease congestion, improve traffic flow and spur economic activity within the town.
The Head of State said multiple multi-billion-shilling infrastructure projects are at various stages of implementation across Meru County, underscoring the government’s resolve to drive grassroots socio-economic transformation.
